Dear ,
Throughout my tenure at Children’s National Hospital, I have
been incredibly fortunate to count on your partnership.
Together, we have realized big goals and grown in ways that
allow us to improve the health and well-being of children and
our community.
I value our relationship and your connection to the hospital.
For this reason, I want to share my intention to retire as President
and CEO. Sharing this news now gives the Board of Directors
ample time to conduct a robust search and bring on a new
leader, while allowing me to help ensure a smooth and
successful transition.
This decision fills me with great emotion, but the time is right.
Children’s National is in an exceptionally strong position, with a
capable Board, and extraordinary staff and donors whose vision
and generosity will ensure the hospital’s future success.
It has been a privilege to call Children’s National my professional
home since I arrived as a surgical fellow in 1984. Since then, we
have made great strides on behalf of kids and their families.
Today, U.S. News & World Report ranks us the No. 5 best
children’s hospital in the nation and No. 1 for newborn care for
the sixth year in a row. We are a leader in unlocking new and
better ways to care for children. In 2011, we opened the Sheikh
Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation. Last year, we
opened our one-of-a-kind Research & Innovation Campus. The
hospital also launched its first comprehensive fundraising
campaign in more than a decade, follow the leader. To date,
we have raised $475 million of our ambitious $500 million
campaign goal, enabling us to transform young lives for
generations to come.
Your partnership and generosity made these accomplishments
possible.
I am confident the Board will recruit the right person to lead this
very special organization into the future. I will do all that I can to
ensure a seamless transition.
Thank you for your commitment to helping us deliver world-class,
compassionate care.
My appreciation and best wishes,
