Children's National Health System

Children’s National is the largest health system solely dedicated to improving children’s health in the Washington metropolitan area. With a community-based pediatric network, several locations in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, an ambulatory surgery center, two emergency rooms, an acute care hospital, and collaborations throughout the region, Children's National provides expertise and innovation in pediatric care and serves as an advocate for all children.

Children’s National plays a vital role in improving the health of children in the nation’s capital, across the country, and around the world. In addition to providing innovative therapies for children, Children’s National is an international leader in research, seeking cures for childhood diseases and approaches to improve the health of children everywhere.

As a nonprofit, Children’s National relies on the generosity of individuals and organizations to meet the needs of children and families and to shape the future of pediatric medicine. Philanthropic support helps ensure that every family that needs medical care in our area can have access to world-class doctors.

Donations allow Children's National to:

  • Provide the best possible treatment for every child in the region who needs care, regardless of the family’s ability to pay.
  • Develop innovative therapies for childhood diseases while conducting research to find cures.
  • Expand our reach through our partnerships, clinics, outpatient centers, and community health centers throughout the metropolitan area.
  • Maintain our facilities, and keep more than 8,000 pieces of specialized equipment in working order.
  • Build on our expertise in areas like pain medicine, oncology, robotic surgery, fetal medicine, orthopedics and sports medicine, and blood and marrow transplants.
  • Contribute more than $100 million each year in community benefits like uncompensated care, community health, and education.

  • Treats more than 319,000 children a year
  • Performs more than 17,800 surgeries a year
  • Conducts more than 475 research projects
  • Features 303 in-patient beds, 54 of which are level IV NICU bassinets
  • Features two large Emergency Departments in Washington, DC
  • The Children’s National Health Network has more than 400 affiliated pediatricians in the nation’s capital region
