plan an event

Fundraising events come in a variety of shapes and sizes! They can be simple, like a yard sale or birthday party, or more elaborate, like a golf tournament. Children’s Hospital Foundation loves community events, because the planners and participants are having fun as they raise money for Children’s National! If you’re ready, register your event.

Planning Your Event

When choosing the type of event you would like to host, don’t forget to factor in the time and resources you will need to make it a success. There are many things to consider when planning an event, including:

  • Creating a planning committee
  • Setting financial goals
  • Creating a budget
  • Promoting your event

While your Children’s National representative is a great resource for questions you might have with regards to events planning, it is up to you to plan, execute, and manage your event. In addition to offering advice, Children’s National can provide:

  • A letter of support to be used to validate the authenticity of the event and its organizers
  • Online brochures and other publicity materials
  • IRS-compliant receipts to donors as applicable
  • Formal acknowledgment for contributions
  • Approval of Children’s National Logo and name (branding regulations will be provided).

Please note that we are unable to reimburse and/or fund expenses related to the event, provide mailing lists of our donors, or promote your event to an external audience. In addition, due to our high volume of events and limited staff, we are unable to guarantee the appearance of a Children’s National representative at your event.

Not sure where to begin? We encourage our community partners to be creative while keeping in mind the interest of their target audience. Here are some examples of past events that have been successful:

  • Holiday Party: Do you have an annual holiday party, either at work or among your friends? Instead of having a gift swap suggest that each guest makes a donation to Children’s National. We can provide you with suggested language to include on your invitation and now you have one less gift you need to buy during the holiday season!
  • Golf Tournament: Whether you have an outing with friends or colleagues, a golf tournament is a perfect opportunity to mix business, pleasure, and philanthropy! For sponsorship opportunities, try reaching out to the organization’s vendors. You would be surprised by how many organizations will jump at the opportunity to give back. Your golf course would be a great resource for planning an outing, and may even be willing to donate lunch for everyone who contributes.
  • Shopping Night: Do you have one store where you always shop? Maybe you didn’t know that many retail stores offer personal shopping nights to a group of people. Not only will you and your friends receive a discount on merchandise, but also a portion of the sales will benefit a charity of your choice. This event will raise funds for Children’s National, and you will have a fun night with your friends and receive a discount on some of your favorite items!
  • School Drive: If you are under the age of 18 and are looking for ways to get involved ask your school to put a donation jar in each classroom. You can make Children’s National your charity of the month. Up the stakes by creating a competition among the grades to see who can raise the most money!

If you still have questions, please email Emily Langlois or give her a call at 301-565-4278, otherwise, register your event HERE.
