Gifts in Memory of Rakan Stormer
|
After a very intense year-long battle with an incredibly rare pediatric cancer called Diffused Anaplastic Wilms Tumour, we tragically lost our son Rakan at age 6. We learned a lot during the year about the medical process, drugs and their effects, advocacy as parents, and what it will take to get to a cure. The answer is research. Research for rare cancers is woefully underfunded as it's not profitable for drug companies, so it's up to us all to raise money to fund research. Thanks to this community, we're almost at $200K just from posting on social media twice a year. We appreciate you! But it's time to kick it up a notch. We are fortunate enough to have one of the world's leading experts on Wilms at Children's Hospital, and we are committed to helping him find a cure so others don't have to lose their loved ones. Since this fund was launched, Dr Jeffrey Dome has been table to tap into these funds to launch clinical trials specifically to help find a cure for the incredibly rare strain of cancer that Rakan had. We are now working with Dr Dome to create a special clinic JUST for Wilms Tumor in Rakan's name. We need to raise TWO MILLION DOLLARS to do this. We are so very grateful to our global village for making this happen -- now, let's keep going! Donations in Rakan’s cherished memory will support Wilms’ tumor research at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s National under the supervision of world renowned oncologist Dr Jeffrey Dome. Children’s Hospital Foundation, the fundraising arm of Children's National Medical Center, is a 501 (c) (3) organization as determined by the IRS. The Foundation’s EIN# is 52-1640402. All gifts are fully tax-deductible and all donors will receive gift receipts indicating that no goods/services were received in exchange for donations. |
