The ANNUAL STEPHEN MONACO CHARITY GOLF EVENT  to benefit Children's National Hospital was created by Tom and Jana Monaco in 2015 to celebrate the birthday of a special boy whose life touches many.  Due to a late diagnosis of a rare metabolic disorder, isovaleric acidemia, their son Stephen suffered a severe brain injury at age 3 ½ resulting in significant disabilities and medical issues... preventable had he benefited from comprehensive newborn screening at birth. All babies now benefit thanks to changes in NBS laws nationwide impacted by Stephen's life. 

Come and celebrate Stephen turning 25 with the 7th annual event to support “THE STEPHEN MONACO NUTRITION AND GENETICS FUND” of the Division of Genetics and Metabolism in the Rare Disease Institute at Children’s National.  This fund was developed to improve life for others living with similar rare metabolic disorders. Rare disorders like Stephen's and his sister Caroline affect approximately 1 in 250,000 births and require the highly specialized expertise of the specialists and their team in genetics for their care. To date, we have raised over a quarter of a million dollars for this amazing group of specialists thanks to the many kind hearts and generous donations over the past four years.  We are grateful to each and every one of you. and hope to see you on October 28th!   This year, we celebrate 21 years since Stephen's diagnosis, the continued work of the Rare Disease Institute especially in these challenging times impacted by the pandemic. We also celebrate Stephen's progress and his recovery from a life threatening urosepsis infection due to an obstructed kidney stone this past spring thanks to this amazing group of specialists and their peers.
