Welcome to Team Jocelyn!
Welcome to our team fundraising page to benefit the Race for Every Child 2023! Children’s National is always there for our kids, our families and our community.
We would love for you to join us on October 21 at the Race in Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC, join us virtually for a fun walk or run from anywhere around the world, or just donate to a great cause!
This year's race is very exciting for us because we are celebrating our Double Miracle, Jocelyn, thanks to the wonderful medical team at Children's National. July of 2021 was a pretty scary time for the Wood Family because Jocelyn had to have her second major open-heart surgery. This time she had a coronary bypass (a very rare surgery for kids – maybe less than 10 are performed annually in the US) and a repair of her main pulmonary artery. Once again, we were blessed to have a world class team, this time led by Dr. Yves d’Udekem, repair her heart. Jocelyn's surgery was successful and she left the hospital after 3.5 days which is unheard of! Today, Jocelyn is just a regular kid who is busy with school, sports, friends, travel and adventures. We are so proud of our calm little girl who makes the most out of every day and has the most positive attitude in life. Thanks to Children's National, Jocelyn is a vivacious, fearless, and unstoppable nine-year-old who will be running / walking the 5K this year.
This year, our funds will benefit the amazing work of our beloved cardiologist, Dr. Craig Sable. Dr. Sable's work focuses on the prevention and treatment of Rheumatic Heart Disease, which affects more than 40 million people around the globe and accounts for nearly 300,000 deaths annually. With the support of Team Jocelyn, Dr. Sable and his team continue to expand international advocacy-based collaborations, treat children with heart disease, and contribute to research that promises to improve treatment for children with, or at risk of, rheumatic heart disease around the world.
With support from philanthropy, including Team Jocelyn, Dr. Sable and team have led two landmark studies to combat RHD.
