I am participating in the Race for Every Child because I want to make a difference for kids. When you donate on my page, you power groundbreaking research and world-class care for Children’s National Hospital patients and their families.
For the past 7 years Tommy has suffered from drug resistant temporal lobe epilepsy. Other neurologists kept changing and adding new medicines with no solution. College life became difficult as Tommy’s epilepsy grew worse while he managed sometimes 6-8 seizures a day.
Last July, our prayers were answered when I found Dr. Gaillard at Childrens Hospital and was able to get an appointment for Tommy in November. From the moment we stepped into Children’s with Dr Gaillard and his team, Tommy felt heard and understood. There were a lot tears and still a lot of uncertainty. But, the plan was laid out. The team became Tommy’s advocates and the support was something we hadn’t felt before.
We spent many days and nights at Children’s this past year in preparation for Tommy’s brain ablation in August.
His team of doctors and nurses became our second family and Children’s our second home.
Dr. Gaillard and his team, including Dr. Oluigbo Tommy’s neurosurgeon, answered our prayers with a successful surgery that allowed Tommy to return to his senior year at Virginia Tech, still seizure free since August.
Our family is running in this 5k Race for every child to support Children’s Hospital and more specifically Dr. Gaillard’s tireless efforts to bring relief to the young people suffering from drug resistant epilepsy.
Any donation you can make will help support the research for our team “ Yes We Can end Epilepsy”
We hope our story can be shared if you know others who are suffering with epilepsy!
Thank you to those who have been praying for Tommy and for those who can join in his continued recovery
