I'm fundraising to help raise money for family housing at Children's National

Support St Johns!

We are raising funds to help families stay together while their child is undergoing treatment. Every dollar counts!

Thank you so much for supporting patient housing and Teens with Heartsongs. At Chuldrens National, the Housing Program is funded 100% by philanthropy, many family rely on the hospital to provide accommodations and cover associated costs. On average, 300 families require housing annually at the cost of $400,000.

“Unity is strength. When there is teamwork and collaboration wonderful things can be achieved.” Mattie Stepanek

We decided to lead the St. John’s team because of personal connections:

“Hi I’m Grace! I am a senior at St. John’s, I play field hockey. “ I am the Co-Leader on this year's SJC Teens with Heart Songs Team!I first became involved with Teens With Heartsongs my sophomore year. When I signed up I didn't fully understand the depth of our mission but throughout my time with Teens With Heart Songs I have become very passionate about our purpose, to help build homes for these families who are in need. I wasn’t fully aware of this struggle until I saw it upfront. My aunt and Uncle have had three children who have all been in the NICU after birth. Listening to the stories they had about how hard it was for them to have to go between their house and the hospital and not being able to be with their newborn children right after birth has really inspired me to get involved. They are lucky enough to be able to afford housing and live close enough to the hospital to commute but so many others are not. The last thing anyone should be worried about when in the hospital or when a loved one is in the hospital is where you are going to stay the night or your next meal. Everyone should be able to be there for their loved ones when they are struggling. When you are sick you are at your lowest, you need your family there to support you and be with you.

“Hi I’m also Grace! I am a junior at St. John’s, I play field hockey and lacrosse. I am beyond excited to see what this year has store for our team. The reason I want to be a part of this program is that I have seen the impact it can have on peoples lives. A friend of mine from elementary school, Teddy, was in a horrible car accident in Savannah, Georgia during spring break in 2016. He was unconscious in critical care with multiple brain, school, and body injuries. The doctors didn’t know if he was going to live.  Teddy‘s parents have nowhere to stay for many months while he was in the hospital in Georgia and Virginia. A similar program helps them find housing close to the hospital. Teddy ended up being okay, for many months of care in the hospital, he survived. His mom and dad expressed how thankful they were that there was a program there to help them. They wouldn’t have been able to be there with their son as frequently if it weren’t for the housing aid. I am so excited to work with and lead the St. John’s team this year, And to help be apart of an impact on people’s lives!”

Thank you so much for helping us reach our goal,
The St. John’s Teen with Heartsongs Team
